Math 4 - Saxon Transition

Math 4 - Saxon Transition is designed to prepare students for the recommended grade level at Veritas, strengthening young students’ foundation in key math concepts, ensuring they are well equipped for Math 5 Saxon 76. This course builds on previously learned concepts, helping students to sharpen mental math skills and strengthen comprehension.. Students have previously explored whole number concepts and computation and will deepen this understanding throughout the school year. This course will place an emphasis on number sense and math facts mastery and students will learn to identify the value of numbers written in various forms such as whole numbers, negative numbers, ordinal numbers, expanded notation, fractions, decimal numbers, powers, percents, prime and composite numbers, emphasizing the order of God’s creation and design. Other topics include fact families, US customary and metric units, and sequences. Lessons are fully integrated with geometry concepts appropriate to this level. Homework will average 2 - 3 hours per week reinforcing concepts and encouraging independent learning. Prerequisites
Minimum age of 9 and maximum age of 12 on the first day of class. Successful completion of Mathematics 3 - Saxon 54 or comparable course in the previous 24 months is strongly encouraged.
