Business Math
School Year (September 2, 2025 to May 22, 2026)
Business Math deals with a topic that Jesus commented on regularly – money! This course examines the use of math in the world’s economy from two distinct perspectives: that of a consumer, and that of a business owner. We begin with a basic overview of mathematics and algebra with special emphasis on percentages and basic equations. Students then move into a multifaceted study of the business world and our role within it. They will be given the opportunity to see how things such as investments, loans, and annuities are used by consumers and lending institutions. They will look at budgeting, taxes, and expenses from each perspective, to include the special concerns of the self-employed. Students will also be given the opportunity to complete projects and have discussions that directly engage with current events in the world marketplace. An underlying guide for the entire course will be what the Bible teaches about stewardship and what that looks like in each context. Upon completion, students will be better prepared to function within our economy in a multitude of roles, in a way that brings honor and glory to the Lord. Homework will average 2 - 4 hours per week.
