Art Studio I
School Year (September 2, 2025 to May 22, 2026)
In Art Studio I students will be introduced to (or reminded of) the Elements of Art through the art media they use and the artworks they create. As students enter the “dialectic stage” of their art education they will delve more deeply into understanding the Principles of Design, the “logic” of good art, and the biblical basis and principles for art. Students will explore Drawing, Painting, and Design. In addition to their projects, students will keep a sketchbook. Instruction will include observational drawing/painting exercises, techniques for different media, viewing great artwork from the past, step by step demonstrations, discussion of Scripture’s principles for art (found in the Bible and addressed by Christian authors), and personal critiques on their projects. This is a studio course so a good amount of time will be provided in class for working on projects. Homework will average 2 - 3 hours per week.
