Computer Programming Python

Are you wanting to learn how to code but are unsure where to start? Python is a beginner friendly, but powerful programming language that allows one to create small games and programs, complete user applications, as well as analyze massive amounts of data. Whether you want to become a software engineer, data scientist, create your own projects, or simply want to dabble in code, Python is a skill that will help you achieve those goals.

This course is an introduction to computer programming using Python. In this course you will:

  • Explore core programming concepts like data structures, conditionals, loops, variables, and functions.
  • Write small, fun programs that allow you to see your skill growth.
  • Learn how to think like a computer scientist.
  • Hear about the various industry uses for Python.
  • Gain confidence in your ability to learn how to code.
  • Embrace the creative side of computer programming through the projects we tackle.
  • Come learn from a VSA faculty member who writes code daily as a software engineer. Homework will average 4-5 hours weekly for this summer course. The total amount of homework time will vary by person depending on the speed with which they can successfully debug their code. Tips and tricks will be provided throughout the course to help students reduce the amount of debug time needed.
