Marine Biology
Marine Biology introduces students to the study of life in marine environments. Life science courses are a wonderful opportunity for Christian students to recognize the creative power of God in the natural world. In Genesis the Spirit of God hovers over the waters and gathers them together in one place. He called the waters Seas and filled them with swarms of creatures on the fifth day of creation. The book of Job tells us that God sets the limits of the sea and reveals Himself in nature. Students will gain knowledge about the physical characteristics of the Earth’s oceans; prominent marine communities and their ecological uniqueness; representative marine organisms from the five biological kingdoms; and environmental science principles that relate to ocean environments. It will give them a fresh perspective on the power of God expressed through the oceans of the world and His marvelous creativity in the diverse creatures found in them. Students will also complete a variety of lab experiences that include microscopic observation of organisms and their tissues, dissection of marine organisms, and other lab activities related to the ocean environment and organisms. Homework will average 2 - 4 hours per week.
