Intrigued by poetry? This course takes you on a poetic journey through time introducing you to the great poets of English verse beginning with the Anglo-Saxon poets and ending with contemporary spoken-word poets. Uncover the Christian roots of English poetry. Discover why Shakespeare rhymed “proved” and “loved” in his famous Sonnet 116. Explore writing poetry in different meters and forms. Workshop your own poetry with your peers in a teacher-guided setting. This course is eligible for dual enrollment credit for junior and senior students. Homework will average 3 - 4 hours per week.

Minimum age of 14 on the first day of class. Successful completion of VSA Composition II or comparable course is strongly encouraged.
