German II
More citizens of the EU speak German than any other language! For centuries, it has been one of the key languages of academic scholarship, particularly in the fields of science and theology. It has a rich literary history, encompassing hundreds of novelists, playwrights, and poets. German II will review the basics of German grammar and vocabulary in the first 8 weeks and then spend the rest of the year reading, translating, and analyzing German texts, both contemporary and historical. German texts studied will include the Luther Bible, fairy tales, short stories, and both classical and contemporary, popular music. Reading and translation work will be required homework for each class session. Homework will average 3 - 4 hours per week.
