Poetry

Intrigued and yet slightly intimidated by poetry? This course takes you on a poetic journey through forms, styles, eras, and masters of the art of poetic expression. Learn how to better understand and appreciate poetry while also honing your skills as a poet who can become equipped to enter the Great Conversation. In-class analysis of great poems will guide exercises in mastering form, rhythm, and figurative expression. Projects and assignments will focus on developing your poetic communication ability and delight. And workshops with classmates and teacher will allow you to share your work and receive immediate, helpful feedback within a writing community setting. This course is eligible for dual enrollment credit for junior and senior students. Homework will average 3 - 4 hours per week.

Prerequisites

Minimum age of 14 on the first day of class. Successful completion of VSA Composition II or comparable course is strongly encouraged.
