Grammar and Writing 5
Building on the concepts in Shurley from Grammar and Writing 4, students will continue to drill the Shurley English jingles and use the practice sentences for the week to develop mastery in understanding the concepts and parts of speech. Students will also use techniques from the Institute for Excellence in Writing to continue to develop their writing skills with key word outlines, writing from pictures, narrative stories, summarizing from notes and essay writing. Feedback and work with the students on their writing assignments will build their confidence and abilities as developing writers. The CD provided with the course will be used to practice Jingles and practice the Question and Answer Flow with homework sentences. Parents should expect to provide consistent oversight and daily assistance on school days with no online class, including checking homework. Recommended for grade 5. Homework will average 2 - 3 hours per week.
